A Note On Me, BELG, And Spoilers

I know people have called me on this several times, and it’s your prerogative to hate me for this post or to not understand. But today, I realised something about myself and I thought I’d share because it explains a lot, and may help you in your interactions with me.

I grew up keeping a secret, and I am still keeping it to this very day.

It was information that I could not be kept in ignorance of, which undoubtedly would have been my mother’s preferred set-up. As I know now, the reason I was told to keep it secret was to keep it secret from one person, and the safest way to ensure that this person did not find out was to tell me to not talk about it to anyone.

SinS Advent Calendar: You'd Better Go In Disguise

Today’s advent calendar treat is “You’d Better Go In Disguise” by Alan Bradley, who usually writes the Flavia De Luce mysteries, a series about an adolescent sleuth in 1950s England. He also co-authored Ms Holmes of Baker Street.

SinS Advent Calendar: The Men With The Twisted Lips

My dear friend CurlyFourEyes bought this book for me back in October, at a Sherlockian conference in Toronto. It’s an anthology of stories inspired by the Sherlock Holmes Canon, written by a stellar cast of authors and edited by the fabulous Laurie R. King and Les Klinger.

Two months, a forgetful family member, and an inept post office worker later, it finally landed in my house yesterday. It has sixteen stories in it so I can read one each day as my advent calendar treat!

Today, I read a story called “The Men With The Twisted Lips,” which was written by S. J. Rozan.

The Baker Street Babes: You Can Go Holmes Again by Mark Medley → bakerstreetbabes.tumblr.com

bakerstreetbabes:

A keen article from The National Post about The House of Silk and why it’s not the first pastiche sanctioned by the Conan Doyle estate.

“Perhaps the greatest of the Sherlock Holmes mysteries is this: that when we talk of him we invariably fall into the fancy of his existence.” — T.S. Eliot

…

I just have so much love for LRK and Les Klinger for the things they said in this interview. Of course I’m going to read House of Silk and whatever other pastiches I can find but the Russell series and LRK have a very special place in my heart, always.
