SHAM 2013 - Yeah, I’m doing this again, with the help of justlikeluna and clare_nce from LiveJournal.
If you want to come, or if you have any questions, PLEASE EMAIL ME at ardy@bakerstreetbabes.com . I can’t stress how important that is. We need at least a rough idea of the numbers because this thing involves making bookings at two pubs and a restaurant, and I need everyone’s email address so that I have one unified way of contacting people because I won’t be able to keep track of who I need to message on tumblr, who on twitter and who on LJ.
Here it is! SHAM 2013! Our amazing Ardy is taking the helm once again for this fabulous Sherlock Holmes anniversary meet-up, in honour of Holmes & Watson meeting. All the details can be found at http://bit.ly/SHAM2013 and make sure you RSVP! But here’s some info, though please note all updates will be on the livejournal post before they’ll be here.
We now have the Sherlock Holmes Walk with Richard IV booked for 11 am on Saturday January 26, starting from Embankment tube station. (NOTE: yes, I do mean 11am, not 10 am as that was too early for the non-Londoners.)
Afterwards we have a space reserved at the Montagu Pyke, which is in Tottenham Court Road. The walk ends near the Sherlock Holmes Pub and Embankment Station, so you can get the Northern Line - people from outside London may want to buy Travelcards rather than Return tickets.
After that, we can split up and you can either go to Baker Street or to Speedy’s or to the Museum of Gruesome History thing that was suggested.
Once I have an idea of numbers, I’ll book somewhere for dinner. Most likely Bella Italia, if there’s a lot of people. There’ll be a Sherlockian quiz during dinner :)
We’re still working on something for the Sunday, but so far it looks like it’ll just involve reserving a space at the Sherlock Holmes pub so that the people who are still around can hang out and talk.

So, I mentioned this idea on Twitter a while back and I’m trying to see if we can make it a reality.
Basically, we have a massive (perceived) disconnect between the Sherlock Holmes Society of London and the Sherlock generation of fans. Some of you guys have written amazingly well-thought-out posts on both the BBC show and the Canon. Some of you are interested in Canon but put off by/not interested in Sherlockian societies.
So, what I’m proposing is meeting up for the express purpose of sharing some ACD Canon love. I thought maybe a fun thing to do would be to get a group in the same room and read a story out loud with different people reading different characters. Or if it’s a small enough group, go to someone’s (aka my) house and watch an episode or two of Granada. Do something Victorian/ACD-Holmesy. Suggestions are welcome!
If there is enough interest, we could try and make it a semi-regular event.
So, seeing as we have the wonderful Annual Picnic on the 14th of July, I was thinking we could meet on the 15th if you’re in town that weekend. As to where and when, that depends a bit on how many people show up, so please comment if you want to come! This is the Motorcycle that Sherlock Holmes rides in the Steampunk Holmes book series. It was originally designed by Mikky Solifague of Solifague Design in Russia. We licensed the likeness of this bike for use in Steampunk Holmes but also as The Big Ticket Item in our interactive steampunk catalog.
You will be able order this bike custom made and street legal through the Steampunk Holmes web site and eBooks! Each order will be hand built by Putsch Racing of Dublin, Ohio.
If the name, Putsch Racing, sounds familiar it might be because - in addition to restoring and building custom motorcycles and cars - Putsch Racing built the World’s only jet engine powered bat car last year, a feat of engineering covered by just about every major news outlet.
We are super excited to include the Widowmakr (originally named the Black Widow) in our merchandise catalog and we can’t wait to see these bikes hit the road! In the Steampunk Holmes stories the Widowmakr runs on steam power, but in real life they will sport a wickedly powerful petrol-powered combustion engine.
Here an excerpt from the book, Steampunk Holmes: Legacy of the Nautilus, which explains how the Widowmakr got its name. This bike is not for the faint of heart.Holmes’ enormous motorized bicycle, the Widowmak’r, was his pet hobby, and so enamored was he with its power and terrific capability for speed, he could not keep his enjoyment of the vehicle to himself. The Widowmak’r got its name from the engineer Holmes employed to help him build it. The engineer, a cankerous old man but a genius with H202 steam engines, told Holmes that no good could come of such a machine. He called it a “Widowmak’r” because it would surly kill Holmes and leave his wife a widow. Holmes had laughed at that, and said he had no intention of ever marrying, but he immediately fancied the name Widowmak’r – or Widow as he called it for short – and has used it ever since.Doctor Watson 1885
Supporting this kickstarter project will help make this bike a reality - without Steampunk Holmes there is no Widowmakr and that would be a crying shame.
